About the Company & Graduate Programme

HSBC is one of the world's largest banking and financial services organisations, serving more than 40 million customers globally. With our headquarters in London, we sit at the heart of the international financial system, facilitating trade, investment, and growth across developed and emerging markets. Our culture is built on a foundation of open communication, integrity, and a commitment to sustainable finance, aiming to transition the global economy to net zero by 2050. As an early career professional at HSBC, you are not just an employee; you are a key contributor to the innovative technologies and ethical banking practices that define our future.

The Global Banking & Markets Graduate Programme is pivotal to our strategy of refreshing our talent pipeline with fresh perspectives. We operate in a highly regulated and rapidly evolving sector where technological disruption and geopolitical change create constant challenges. By joining this cohort, you will gain deep exposure to how we serve our corporate, institutional, and government clients. We foster an environment of continuous learning where you will be encouraged to challenge the status quo, leverage data-driven insights, and collaborate with diverse teams to solve complex financial puzzles for our clients worldwide.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate through high-impact departments, including Global Liquidity and Cash Management, Securities Services, and Sales & Trading.
  • Conduct in-depth quantitative and qualitative research to support senior stakeholders in client-facing pitches and market analysis.
  • Utilize advanced financial software and data platforms, such as Bloomberg Terminal, Reuters Eikon, and internal Python-based analytics tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on project delivery, ranging from regulatory reporting to new product development initiatives.
  • Engage with senior directors and executive leaders through formal programme reviews and networking events.
  • Contribute to the execution of multi-million pound capital market transactions and client funding strategies.
  • Assist in the preparation of detailed risk assessment reports to ensure compliance with global banking standards and local regulations.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • Graduates from any degree discipline (STEM, Finance, Economics, Humanities, or Social Sciences) with a strong intellectual curiosity.
  • Must have achieved or be on track for a minimum 2:1 degree classification (or equivalent).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to digest large volumes of information efficiently.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-pressure team environment.
  • Demonstrable interest in global financial markets and the evolving landscape of sustainable investment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme; full visa sponsorship is available for successful international applicants.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Your 24-month journey is designed to build a holistic understanding of investment banking. You will undertake structured 6-month rotations, allowing you to explore different facets of the business before specialising in your chosen pathway. This hands-on experience is supplemented by a robust suite of training modules focusing on financial modeling, regulatory frameworks, and leadership development. We support your academic advancement by providing full funding and time-off for industry-standard professional qualifications, including the CFA or CISI charters.

Mentorship is at the core of our early careers philosophy. Upon joining, you will be paired with a dedicated 'Buddy' from a previous graduate cohort to help you navigate your first few months. Additionally, you will be assigned a Senior Mentor—an experienced leader in the business who will provide guidance on long-term career planning, personal development, and navigating the nuances of global corporate culture at HSBC.
