About the Company & Graduate Programme

HSBC is one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organisations, serving more than 40 million customers globally. Our UK footprint, headquartered in London’s Canary Wharf, is the engine room of our global operations, connecting UK businesses to international markets and enabling the flow of capital and investment. We are a firm driven by innovation, constantly challenging traditional financial models to embrace sustainable finance, digital transformation, and sophisticated risk management solutions. As a key player in the global economy, we pride ourselves on a culture of inclusivity, meritocracy, and ethical banking, ensuring that our employees develop in an environment that values diverse perspectives.

Our Graduate Programme is pivotal to our long-term strategy of building a pipeline of future leaders who can navigate the complexities of modern finance. We are looking for high-potential graduates who are ready to hit the ground running. By joining HSBC, you are not just embarking on a career; you are joining a global community of experts who are committed to making a tangible impact on the world’s financial landscape. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic excellence and professional mastery, ensuring you are equipped with the technical depth and commercial acumen required to succeed at the highest levels of global banking.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate through key desks in Global Markets, Banking, and Securities Services to gain a holistic view of the investment banking lifecycle.
  • Assist senior relationship managers and traders in drafting pitch books, conducting market research, and preparing client performance reports.
  • Utilize advanced financial modelling tools and data analytics platforms, including Bloomberg Terminal, Python for data manipulation, and SQL, to provide actionable insights for stakeholders.
  • Support the execution of complex cross-border transactions and capital market operations, ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Engage directly with senior stakeholders to present market trends, performance data, and strategic recommendations in high-pressure environments.
  • Collaborate on cross-functional projects aimed at enhancing our digital delivery and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) investment reporting.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify market anomalies and investment opportunities, contributing directly to our client-facing strategies.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • Applicants must hold or be on track to achieve a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in any discipline; however, Economics, Finance, STEM, or Mathematics-based subjects are highly desirable.
  • A strong intellectual curiosity with a demonstrated interest in the global financial markets, banking regulations, and macroeconomic trends.
  • Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex data into coherent strategies and narrative insights.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams to solve intricate problems under tight deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to build professional relationships with senior management and global clients.
  • Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK without restriction. HSBC UK provides visa sponsorship for successful applicants who meet the necessary criteria.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of integrity and a keen interest in sustainable business practices.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Our structured 24-month programme is broken down into three or four rotations, each lasting 6 to 8 months, allowing you to experience different facets of the business—from Sales and Trading to Debt Capital Markets and Corporate Banking. This diversity ensures that graduates graduate with a well-rounded understanding of the bank’s operations. Throughout the programme, you will receive comprehensive technical training that prepares you for professional qualifications, such as the CFA or relevant financial services certifications, supported by our dedicated Learning & Development academy.

Beyond formal training, we emphasize continuous development through our mentorship framework. Every graduate is paired with a peer-level 'buddy' to help navigate the daily culture and a senior 'mentor'—often a Managing Director or VP—to provide strategic guidance, career coaching, and exposure to senior executive leadership. This support structure is a cornerstone of our success, ensuring you have the network and confidence to transition into a permanent Analyst role at the conclusion of the scheme.

Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package

  • Competitive base salary of £42,000 per annum, with a sign-on bonus of £2,000.
  • Eligibility for an annual performance-based discretionary bonus.
  • Generous pension scheme with employer matching up to 10%.
