Join bp's prestigious 24-month Trading & Supply Graduate Scheme in London. This rotation-based programme offers a competitive salary, professional qualification support, and the opportunity to shape the global energy transition.

About the Company & Graduate Programme

bp is reinventing itself as an integrated energy company, pivoting from an international oil company to a powerhouse of lower-carbon energy. With a deep-rooted presence in the UK, bp is currently driving the energy transition through massive investments in offshore wind, hydrogen, and advanced biofuels, all while managing one of the world's most sophisticated commodity trading and supply chains. Our UK footprint, anchored in London, serves as the nerve center for global operations, attracting the brightest minds eager to solve the energy trilemma: secure, affordable, and lower-carbon energy.

This graduate intake is pivotal to our strategy. As we accelerate our 'Reimagining Energy' ambition, we require a new generation of analysts who can navigate complex datasets, understand market fluctuations, and contribute to the sustainable supply chains of the future. You will join a culture of innovation that values safety, respect, and excellence, working alongside industry experts who are shaping the global energy landscape. We are committed to early careers development, ensuring you have the exposure and autonomy needed to become a future leader at bp.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Gain hands-on exposure to global crude oil, natural gas, and power market operations across multiple trading desks.
  • Support senior traders and risk managers by conducting daily quantitative analysis of market trends, price volatility, and supply chain logistics.
  • Utilize Python, R, and SQL to clean large datasets and build automated reporting tools that inform high-stakes trading decisions.
  • Collaborate with global logistics and shipping teams to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of energy products.
  • Engage directly with senior stakeholders to present findings on market risk exposure and potential investment opportunities.
  • Work on real-world projects such as modelling carbon offset pricing or analyzing the impact of weather patterns on renewable energy yield.
  • Support cross-functional digital transformation initiatives, including migrating legacy trading processes to cloud-based systems.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • Candidates must hold or be on track for a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a STEM, Finance, Economics, or Business-related discipline.
  • Exceptional analytical mindset with the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable business intelligence.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, essential for explaining intricate concepts to diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated resilience and problem-solving abilities within high-pressure environments.
  • A genuine interest in the energy sector, renewables, and the economics of global commodity markets.
  • Collaborative spirit; you must demonstrate the ability to work effectively within diverse, international teams.
  • Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK without restriction; bp provides visa sponsorship for eligible international graduates on this scheme.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Your 24-month journey will consist of three distinct 8-month rotations across Trading, Supply, and Risk. This structure ensures you develop a holistic understanding of our business, from the physical movement of energy to the financial hedging strategies we deploy to mitigate risk. Throughout the programme, you will receive dedicated support to pursue professional qualifications relevant to your path, such as the CFA, CIMA, or specific technical certifications in cloud infrastructure and data analytics.

Mentorship is at the core of our programme. You will be paired with an experienced buddy from a previous graduate cohort to help with your transition, alongside a senior mentor from the business who will provide strategic guidance on your career development. You will also participate in bp's Early Careers Academy, which offers regular networking events, workshops on commercial awareness, and leadership masterclasses designed to equip you with the skills required to transition into a permanent role post-graduation.
