About the Company & Graduate Programme

Amazon is not just a global leader in e-commerce; we are the primary engine driving the internet's infrastructure through Amazon Web Services (AWS). Our UK footprint is expansive, with headquarters in London’s Shoreditch and cutting-edge data centres distributed throughout the country. We foster a culture of relentless innovation, where 'Day 1' philosophy ensures that every graduate, regardless of their starting point, has the agency to challenge the status quo and influence products that serve millions of global customers. Our commitment to early careers is woven into our leadership principles; we prioritize long-term development over short-term optimization, investing heavily in the next generation of cloud architects and technical leaders.

This graduate intake is pivotal to our growth strategy in the UK. As cloud computing becomes the backbone of modern enterprise, we need agile, curious, and technically adept minds to maintain our market leadership. Joining this scheme provides you with a unique vantage point into the complexities of distributed systems, high-scale software development, and the operational excellence required to sustain a global technological ecosystem. You will be at the heart of our mission to build the world's most customer-centric company, contributing to projects that have real-world impact from your very first week.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to design, build, and deploy scalable cloud solutions using AWS technologies.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, architecture design, coding, testing, and deployment.
  • Automate operational tasks using modern programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ to improve infrastructure reliability.
  • Engage with senior technical leads and architects to conduct code reviews and contribute to system performance optimisation discussions.
  • Monitor system health and respond to operational incidents, applying root cause analysis to prevent recurring technical issues.
  • Utilise containerisation tools like Docker and Kubernetes to manage microservices within high-availability production environments.
  • Contribute to the migration of legacy systems to modern, cloud-native architectures, ensuring seamless integration for enterprise clients.
  • Present technical updates and project results to stakeholders, translating complex technical metrics into actionable business insights.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • You are currently pursuing or have recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • A minimum classification of a 2:1 (or equivalent) is required to ensure you have the analytical rigor necessary for our technical challenges.
  • You possess a strong foundation in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Python, Java, or C++) and an understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • You demonstrate exceptional problem-solving skills, with an ability to deconstruct complex technical problems into manageable, iterative steps.
  • Collaborative spirit is essential; you thrive in diverse team environments and are eager to learn from and teach your peers.
  • We value candidates who display a high degree of ownership and the ability to operate in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
  • You must possess full, unrestricted rights to work in the UK without employer sponsorship at the time of commencement, or qualify under the Graduate Route visa guidelines.
  • A curiosity for cloud-native trends and a desire to continuously upskill in an ever-evolving technological landscape is a must.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Our 24-month structured graduate programme is designed to transform high-potential graduates into fully-fledged Amazon engineers. The scheme consists of four 6-month rotations across different departments, including Core Infrastructure, Cloud Security, Networking, and Customer-Facing Solutions. This diverse exposure ensures you build a holistic understanding of how our cloud services operate at scale, allowing you to identify the specific area of technology where you can provide the most value. We believe in learning by doing, so expect to be fully embedded in agile 'two-pizza' teams from day one, contributing to production code immediately.

To ensure your success, you will be paired with a dedicated 'Buddy'—a recent programme graduate—as well as a Senior Mentor from our engineering leadership team. These relationships are designed to support your technical growth, career planning, and cultural integration. Furthermore, we invest heavily in your professional credentials, providing full sponsorship for AWS Certified Solutions Architect and Developer certifications, along with access to our internal Amazon Technical Academy (ATA) for continuous learning, ensuring you remain at the cutting edge of cloud innovation.

Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package

  • Competitive base salary starting at £40,000 per annum, with reviews based on performance.
  • Generous sign-on bonus for new graduates joining the permanent headcount.
  • Eligibility for the Amazon Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) programme, providing equity in the company.
  • Comprehensive private healthcare and medical insurance, including dental and optical coverage.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus 8 standard UK bank holidays.
  • A hybrid working allowance to cover costs associated with working from our London hub.
  • A robust pension scheme with matched employer contributions.
  • Relocation assistance provided for graduates moving to London from other parts of the UK.
