About the Company & Graduate Programme
Amazon UK is at the forefront of digital transformation, operating as a primary hub for AWS (Amazon Web Services) and a critical innovation engine for our global retail infrastructure. With our UK headquarters based in London, we foster a culture of 'Day 1'—maintaining the agility, speed, and hunger of a startup while leveraging the immense resources of a global technology leader. Our commitment to early careers is unparalleled, as we believe the next generation of engineers and analysts bring the fresh perspectives required to solve some of the world's most complex distributed systems challenges.
This Graduate Cloud Infrastructure Engineer programme is pivotal to our UK roadmap. As we continue to scale our cloud footprint to support global enterprise clients, we require bright, ambitious graduates to integrate into our engineering teams from day one. You will not be watching from the sidelines; you will be contributing to the very architecture that powers everything from streaming services to complex financial platforms, ensuring that our infrastructure remains scalable, reliable, and secure in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain highly scalable infrastructure components using AWS cloud-native technologies and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) principles.
- Collaborate with senior software development engineers to troubleshoot production issues and implement automated fixes to prevent recurrence.
- Participate in full-lifecycle software delivery, writing high-quality code in languages such as Python, Java, or Go to optimize system performance.
- Engage with internal stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate business problems into technical, cloud-based solutions.
- Actively contribute to code reviews and participate in daily 'stand-ups' as part of an Agile/Scrum team environment.
- Analyze system metrics and logs to identify bottlenecks, driving performance improvements that benefit our end-users worldwide.
- Support the migration and modernization of legacy systems to serverless or containerized environments (Kubernetes/EKS).
Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
- Minimum predicted or achieved 2:1 degree classification (or equivalent).
- Strong analytical and logical reasoning skills, with a demonstrated ability to break down complex problems into manageable components.
- Basic proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language and an interest in Linux/Unix system administration.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a diverse, cross-functional team environment.
- A hunger for continuous learning and the adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Full right-to-work in the UK for the duration of the programme (we provide support for visa sponsorship where eligible under the Graduate Route).
Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship
The programme spans 24 months, structured across three distinct 8-month rotations. These rotations are designed to expose you to different aspects of our ecosystem—from core cloud infrastructure and networking to data-intensive services and customer-facing application engineering. This breadth ensures that by the end of your tenure, you will have developed a holistic understanding of how large-scale technology businesses operate at an enterprise level.
You will be supported by a dedicated 'Buddy' (a recent graduate) for your day-to-day integration and a 'Mentor' (a senior engineer or manager) who will guide your long-term career progression and development goals. Furthermore, we provide a structured learning path with internal training budgets to support you in achieving industry-recognized certifications, such as the AWS Certified Solutions Architect, ensuring your technical skills remain market-leading throughout the programme.
