About the Company & Graduate Programme

Arm is the engine behind the world’s most advanced technology, designing the energy-efficient processor architectures that power everything from the latest smartphones and tablets to high-performance servers and the Internet of Things. With a legacy of innovation spanning over three decades, Arm operates at the very heart of the global semiconductor industry. Our UK presence is fundamental to our global strategy, serving as a hub for groundbreaking R&D where our engineers push the boundaries of what is possible in computing. By joining Arm, you are stepping into an ecosystem that influences the digital experiences of billions of people every day, working in a culture that values curiosity, collaboration, and technical excellence above all else.

The Arm Graduate Programme is our commitment to nurturing the next generation of visionary engineers. We recognize that today's graduates are tomorrow's technology leaders, and this intake is pivotal to our mission of designing for a more sustainable and connected future. As a Graduate Hardware Engineer, you will be embedded within cross-functional teams, working on real-world projects that challenge your technical proficiency while providing a deep understanding of the silicon lifecycle. We provide an environment where your ideas matter, offering the autonomy to contribute to meaningful work from day one, while ensuring you have the robust support framework necessary to thrive in your early career.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior architects and design teams to contribute to the development of next-generation CPU, GPU, or System-on-Chip (SoC) architectures.
  • Utilize industry-standard hardware description languages (Verilog/SystemVerilog) to design, simulate, and verify complex digital logic blocks.
  • Perform rigorous verification cycles using advanced simulation environments to ensure the functional correctness of designs before they proceed to fabrication.
  • Participate in the synthesis and timing analysis of digital circuits to meet power, performance, and area (PPA) constraints.
  • Engage with global stakeholders and cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical hurdles, participating in design reviews and sprint planning sessions.
  • Leverage modern CAD tools and EDA software stacks to automate design workflows and improve simulation efficiency.
  • Assist in post-silicon validation and debug activities to troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and hardware-software interaction issues.
  • Document design specifications and technical findings to maintain high-quality engineering standards and facilitate knowledge transfer across the team.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • You must hold (or be on track to achieve) at least a 2:1 degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related STEM discipline.
  • A strong theoretical understanding of computer architecture, digital logic design, and semiconductor physics is essential for success in this role.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex, open-ended engineering problems through analytical thinking and methodical experimentation.
  • Proven track record of working effectively within a team environment, whether through academic group projects, society involvement, or internship experience.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Perl, or Bash) and familiarity with Linux environments is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts clearly to both specialized and non-specialized audiences.
  • Candidates must possess the right to work in the UK without sponsorship at the start of the programme, although some visa support may be available for exceptional candidates.
  • A genuine passion for technology and a commitment to continuous learning in an ever-evolving hardware landscape.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Our 24-month programme is meticulously structured to accelerate your professional growth through two 12-month rotational placements. These rotations are designed to give you a 360-degree view of the hardware engineering lifecycle, moving you between design, verification, and performance analysis teams. This ensures you gain a comprehensive understanding of the technical challenges we face at Arm, allowing you to identify your niche and build a diverse skillset that is highly sought after in the semiconductor sector. You will also have the opportunity to engage with our internal training academies, which focus on deep-dive technical modules in specialized architecture and design methodologies.

Support is at the core of our culture. From your first day, you will be paired with a dedicated 'Buddy'—usually a former graduate who can help you navigate the company culture and operational nuances. Furthermore, you will be assigned a Senior Mentor who will provide long-term career guidance, help you set personal development goals, and support your progression toward professional accreditation, such as CEng (Chartered Engineer) status with the IET. Through regular 1-on-1s and quarterly development reviews, we ensure that your progress remains a priority and that you are gaining the experience necessary for a long-term, successful career with Arm.

Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package

  • Highly competitive base salary of £37,000 per annum, with a performance-based annual review.
  • Annual performance-related bonus scheme, reflecting both individual and company success.
  • Generous company pension scheme with an industry-leading employer matching contribution.
  • 25 days of annual leave, plus the option to purchase additional days and public holidays.
  • Comprehensive private medical insurance and a dedicated employee wellbeing support programme (including mental health resources).
  • Hybrid working policy with a generous allowance to support your home office setup.
  • Relocation assistance for candidates moving to the London area to begin the scheme.
  • Access to various lifestyle benefits, including discounted gym memberships, cycle-to-work schemes, and tech discounts.

Recruitment Stages & How to Apply

  1. Online Application: Submit your CV and a cover letter detailing why you are passionate about semiconductor design and how your projects align with Arm's vision.
  2. Gamified Cognitive & Situational Judgement Tests: Complete our digital assessment platform tasks which test your logical reasoning, numerical agility, and situational judgement in a professional context.
