About the Company & Graduate Programme
Arm is at the heart of the world's technology, designing the processors that power billions of devices across the globe. From smartphones to supercomputers, and from medical instruments to autonomous vehicles, our energy-efficient processor designs are the invisible engine of the digital age. Headquartered in the UK, we pride ourselves on a culture of curiosity and intellectual rigour, where graduates are not just seen as future employees, but as active contributors to our technical roadmap from day one.
Our graduate intake is pivotal to our mission of redefining the future of silicon. As a Graduate Hardware Engineer in our London office, you will join a community of world-class engineers working on the bleeding edge of semiconductor IP. We provide an environment that fosters constant learning, allowing you to influence the architecture of tomorrow while gaining deep insight into the high-stakes, high-innovation ecosystem of modern hardware engineering.
What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to design and verify complex hardware IP blocks for next-generation processors.
- Utilise industry-standard Hardware Description Languages (Verilog/SystemVerilog) to develop and refine RTL models.
- Engage in the full product lifecycle, from initial architectural specifications through to final post-silicon validation.
- Participate in technical code reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to ensure design integrity and efficiency.
- Use advanced simulation and formal verification tools to ensure our designs meet the highest performance and energy-efficiency standards.
- Engage with senior principal engineers to troubleshoot complex logic bottlenecks and optimise micro-architecture designs.
- Assist in the automation of design flows using Python or Tcl to improve team productivity and hardware testing workflows.
- Present your work to stakeholders during departmental showcases, demonstrating how your designs contribute to ARM's overall power-efficiency goals.
Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility
- A minimum of a 2:1 degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related STEM discipline.
- A strong conceptual understanding of computer architecture, digital logic, and instruction set architectures (ISA).
- Demonstrated experience with hardware description languages (Verilog/VHDL) via university projects or internships.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a logical, systematic approach to debugging complex hardware systems.
- A proactive team player who thrives in collaborative, fast-paced research and development environments.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Must have the legal right to work in the UK without sponsorship restrictions; we offer limited visa support on a case-by-case basis for exceptional candidates.
- Passion for hardware innovation and a commitment to continuous professional development within the semiconductor industry.
Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship
Your 24-month journey is designed to build a solid foundation in semiconductor design. The programme consists of three distinct 8-month rotations across our IP engineering, verification, and performance analysis teams. This variety ensures that you gain a comprehensive understanding of the chip design cycle while discovering the specific technical niche where you can make the greatest impact.
Each graduate is paired with a technical buddy for day-to-day guidance and a senior mentor who provides long-term career coaching and professional development support. In addition to technical training, you will have access to internal "Arm University" modules, which cover advanced topics like SoC architecture, power management, and formal verification, ensuring you are equipped with the skills needed to pursue CEng status through our IET-accredited professional development schemes.
Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package
- Competitive base salary of £38,000 per annum, subject to performance-based annual reviews.
- Sign-on bonus of £2,000 provided upon successful commencement of the programme.
- Discretionary annual performance bonus linked to individual and company objectives.
