About the Company & Graduate Programme

Arm is at the heart of the world's most sophisticated technology, designing the processors that power billions of devices globally. With our UK headquarters as a hub of innovation, we pride ourselves on a culture that values 'We, Not I', ensuring that early-career professionals are integrated into high-impact projects from day one. Our influence spans across mobile, infrastructure, automotive, and IoT, making us a pivotal player in the semiconductor ecosystem. We recognize that the future of computing depends on the next generation of engineers, and our graduate programme is specifically designed to transition high-potential talent into seasoned industry experts who can solve complex engineering challenges.

This graduate intake is central to our R&D roadmap, focusing on sustainable compute and power-efficient design. As a Graduate Hardware Systems Engineer, you will join a cohort of brilliant minds, working within multidisciplinary teams that push the boundaries of what is possible in silicon architecture. We offer an environment where curiosity is rewarded, collaboration is the norm, and the work you contribute to during your rotation will eventually reach millions of users, providing you with a career start that is as impactful as it is technically challenging.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, verify, and document advanced IP blocks for next-generation system-on-chip (SoC) architectures.
  • Utilize industry-standard hardware description languages (Verilog/SystemVerilog) to implement robust RTL designs that meet stringent performance and power constraints.
  • Engage in the full product lifecycle, from micro-architecture specification and design simulation to hardware emulation and post-silicon validation.
  • Work alongside senior architects to perform performance analysis and optimization, utilizing simulation tools to identify bottlenecks in complex computing systems.
  • Participate in technical code reviews, contributing to the high standards of software and hardware quality that define Arm's reputation.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to present technical findings and progress updates, honing your ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse technical audiences.
  • Explore innovative methodologies in low-power design, contributing to projects that impact the environmental footprint of global computing infrastructure.
  • Leverage cutting-edge EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools and cloud-based simulation environments to accelerate development cycles.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • A minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related STEM discipline.
  • A strong fundamental grasp of digital logic, computer architecture, and basic programming skills (e.g., C, C++, or Python).
  • An analytical mindset with a passion for problem-solving and an eagerness to learn complex, technical concepts in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional collaborative abilities, with experience working in team-based project settings, whether academic or extracurricular.
  • Evidence of intellectual curiosity, such as personal projects, hackathons, or relevant internship experience in hardware/software domains.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written, essential for working in our global, interconnected engineering teams.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK without restriction at the time of commencement, though we provide visa sponsorship for international graduates who meet the criteria.
  • Resilience and a proactive approach, with the ability to thrive when facing novel or ambiguous technical challenges.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Our 24-month programme consists of three distinct 8-month rotations, ensuring you gain a 360-degree view of our engineering ecosystem. You will rotate through key areas such as Architecture, Verification, and Physical Design. This structure is designed to help you identify your specialization while building a versatile skill set that is highly valued across the semiconductor industry. Throughout these rotations, you will be supported by a dedicated 'buddy'—a recent graduate—and a senior mentor from the engineering leadership team who will guide your professional progression.

Beyond technical rotations, we invest heavily in your professional development through structured training modules. Graduates receive dedicated time to pursue industry-relevant certifications, such as AWS Cloud Architect or specific FPGA and EDA software proficiencies. We also support your journey toward CEng (Chartered Engineer) status with the IET, providing the necessary guidance and logbook supervision. Through regular technical seminars, soft-skills workshops, and global networking events, we ensure you have the support network required to transition from university life to a high-achieving corporate environment.

Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package

  • Competitive base salary of £37,000 per annum, with annual performance-based salary reviews.
  • Joining bonus of £2,000 paid upon successful completion of your first three months.
  • Generous company pension scheme with a 10% employer contribution match.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell additional days.
  • Comprehensive private medical insurance and a dedicated employee wellbeing programme including mental health support.
  • Monthly hybrid-working allowance to support your home office setup.
  • Relocation assistance package provided for candidates moving to the London or Cambridge area.
  • Share incentive plans and performance-based annual bonus potential.
