Embark on an 24-month rotational journey with HSBC's Global Banking & Markets programme, designed to develop future leaders through intensive technical training and high-impact client engagement. Gain professional qualifications while working at the heart of London’s financial district in a hybrid, inclusive environment.

About the Company & Graduate Programme

HSBC is one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organisations, serving more than 40 million customers globally. Headquartered in London, our UK footprint is pivotal to our strategy, acting as the bridge between international capital markets and domestic growth. We pride ourselves on a culture of innovation, where we empower our employees to challenge the status quo and drive sustainable financial solutions for a net-zero future.

Our Graduate Programme is designed for high-potential individuals who are ready to make a significant impact from day one. As a global firm, we are committed to investing heavily in early careers, providing the tools, technology, and network necessary to build a world-class career. This intake is crucial for the future of our Global Banking and Markets division, as we continue to digitise our services and provide strategic advisory to institutional clients in a rapidly evolving economic landscape.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate through key business lines, including Debt Capital Markets, Equities, Global Liquidity, and Risk Management, gaining a holistic view of the investment banking lifecycle.
  • Utilise industry-standard financial modelling tools (Bloomberg, Reuters, and proprietary Python-based analytical dashboards) to support live client deals and portfolio assessments.
  • Engage with senior stakeholders and executive leadership to present findings from market research and competitor intelligence reports.
  • Collaborate with international teams to deliver cross-border transaction support and complex structured financial products.
  • Contribute to ESG-focused investment projects, helping our clients transition toward sustainable finance and reduced carbon footprints.
  • Participate in client meetings, shadowing senior relationship managers to observe high-stakes negotiations and relationship management strategies.
  • Take ownership of small-scale projects, utilising data visualisation techniques (Tableau, PowerBI) to improve reporting efficiency.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • You must have completed or be on track to complete an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in any discipline (Finance, Economics, STEM, or Humanities are all welcome).
  • Minimum 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent international qualification).
  • A demonstrably analytical mindset, with the ability to interpret complex data sets and translate them into actionable business insights.
  • Strong evidence of teamwork and leadership through extracurricular activities, society participation, or previous work experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex financial concepts to diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proactive problem-solving abilities and the resilience to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced financial environment.
  • Applicants must hold the right to work in the UK without restriction, or be eligible for a graduate route visa sponsorship; we provide comprehensive sponsorship support where necessary.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Our 24-month structured programme provides a blend of formal classroom learning and intensive on-the-job training. Over the course of four six-month rotations, you will gain deep exposure to different facets of our business, ensuring you develop a broad and flexible skill set. We provide full financial and time-off support for professional qualifications, such as the CFA or relevant financial regulatory certificates, ensuring you are fully equipped for a long-term career in finance.

Every graduate is paired with a dedicated 'buddy'—a former graduate of the programme—and a senior mentor from the business. This support network is designed to provide personal guidance, career coaching, and exposure to senior leaders. We facilitate regular cohort networking events and technical workshops to ensure you continue to grow your professional network throughout your tenure with HSBC.

Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package

  • Competitive base salary of £40,000 per annum, with potential for increases based on performance and role progression.
  • Annual performance-related discretionary bonus scheme.
  • Generous pension scheme with employer matching up to 10%.
  • 25 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays and the option to purchase additional days.
