About the Company & Graduate Programme

HSBC UK is one of the world's largest banking and financial services organisations, serving millions of customers through our global businesses. In the UK, we operate at the heart of the financial sector, providing essential services to individuals, small businesses, and massive multinational corporations. Our culture is built on a foundation of innovation, integrity, and international connectivity. We believe that our people are our greatest asset, which is why our graduate intake is pivotal to the future of the bank. We recruit passionate, forward-thinking individuals who can help us adapt to the rapid digitisation of finance while maintaining the high standards of service our clients expect.

Our commitment to early careers is second to none. We provide a platform for graduates to contribute to real-world challenges from day one, whether that is navigating complex regulatory frameworks, developing new fintech applications, or supporting sustainable investment strategies. Joining our London team means working in a fast-paced environment where your perspective is valued, your development is prioritised, and you are empowered to challenge the status quo as part of a truly global network.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate across key business areas including Commercial Banking, Global Markets, and Securities Services to build a comprehensive view of the banking lifecycle.
  • Conduct in-depth financial modelling and data analysis to support senior stakeholders in client-facing pitches and internal strategy reviews.
  • Utilise modern tools such as SQL, Python, and Tableau to synthesise large datasets into actionable business insights.
  • Engage directly with global clients to understand their treasury, credit, and investment needs, acting as the primary point of contact for complex enquiries.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Risk, Compliance, and Digital Transformation, to ensure project delivery meets all internal and external governance standards.
  • Assist in the execution of financial transactions, regulatory reporting, and market research to stay ahead of macroeconomic shifts.
  • Present findings and recommendations to department heads and leadership teams, honing your professional communication and influence skills.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • Open to all degree disciplines, including STEM, Finance, Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences.
  • A minimum of a 2:1 degree classification (predicted or achieved) from an accredited university.
  • Exceptional analytical mindset with the ability to digest complex information and provide clear, logical solutions.
  • Demonstrable experience working in high-performing teams, showcasing leadership potential and effective collaboration.
  • Fluency in English is essential, and proficiency in additional languages is highly regarded given our international scope.
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK at the time of application; HSBC UK is proud to offer visa sponsorship for successful international applicants.
  • A keen interest in global financial markets and a desire to build a long-term career within the banking sector.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Our 24-month structured programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and professional practice. You will complete a series of rotations, each lasting 6 months, allowing you to gain breadth of experience across the business. This rotation structure ensures you find the niche where your skills are best utilised while ensuring you have a holistic understanding of our UK operations. Beyond the rotations, we provide robust support for professional development, including funding and study leave for recognised qualifications such as the CFA, ACCA, or CIMA, depending on your chosen path.

We believe mentorship is key to success. Upon joining, you will be paired with a dedicated 'buddy'—a former graduate who can help you settle into the culture—and a senior mentor from the business who will guide your career progression and help you navigate the corporate structure. You will also have access to the HSBC Graduate Development Academy, featuring workshops, networking events with senior leaders, and a continuous feedback loop to ensure you are meeting your potential throughout the scheme.

Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package

  • Competitive base salary of £37,500 per annum.
  • Annual performance-related bonus scheme.
  • Generous company pension scheme with a high employer matching percentage.
  • 28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Comprehensive private healthcare and wellness benefits, including access to mental health support and gym discounts.
  • Hybrid working allowance to support your flexible setup.
  • Relocation assistance for those moving to London for the programme.

Recruitment Stages & How to Apply

  1. Online Application & CV: Submit your profile through our careers portal. Please ensure your CV highlights relevant projects, leadership roles, and academic achievements.
  2. Gamified Cognitive & Situational Judgement Tests: These assessments are designed to measure your potential rather than prior knowledge, focusing on logical reasoning, numerical agility, and decision-making styles.
  3. On-Demand Video Interview: Showcase your personality, motivation for joining HSBC, and how you align with our core values through a structured pre-recorded video format.
  4. Virtual Assessment Centre & Technical Presentation: The final stage involving a deep-dive interview, a technical case study, and a group exercise. We operate on a rolling basis; early applications are strongly encouraged as roles are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
