About the Company & Graduate Programme
Amazon UK serves as a cornerstone of the global digital infrastructure, operating at a scale that is virtually unmatched in the technology sector. With major hubs in London and across the UK, we empower millions of customers and businesses to innovate through our world-leading cloud computing division, Amazon Web Services (AWS). Our culture is defined by our Leadership Principles, which encourage employees to 'think big', 'dive deep', and 'deliver results'. We believe that our most significant asset is our people, and our graduate intake is pivotal to our mission of sustaining this culture of invention as we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in distributed systems and software development.
The Graduate Cloud Infrastructure Engineer programme is a bespoke 24-month journey designed to transition high-potential talent into seasoned technical professionals. You will join an environment where high-impact projects are the norm, and where you are encouraged to propose radical ideas from day one. By integrating into the heart of our engineering operations, you will gain exposure to the complex architectural challenges that support the global internet, ensuring that our infrastructure remains scalable, reliable, and secure for our diverse customer base.
What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior software engineers to design, deploy, and manage distributed systems that support millions of concurrent users.
- Engage in rotational placements across teams such as Cloud Security, Network Architecture, and High-Performance Compute to gain a holistic view of the AWS ecosystem.
- Utilise modern infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, and Python scripts to automate complex operational tasks.
- Participate in on-call rotations to manage system availability, incident response, and root-cause analysis for large-scale production environments.
- Contribute to the development of microservices, ensuring high performance, fault tolerance, and cost-efficiency within the cloud fabric.
- Present project updates and technical documentation to senior stakeholders and leadership teams, honing your ability to communicate complex concepts effectively.
- Lead specific sprint tasks, taking ownership of development cycles from ideation through to deployment and monitoring.
- Implement security protocols and compliance measures to ensure that our infrastructure meets the highest global standards for data privacy and protection.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship
Your journey begins with a comprehensive four-week 'Cloud Bootcamp' which covers the fundamentals of our internal AWS services, security best practices, and internal developer tooling. Following this, you will rotate through three distinct departments every eight months. These rotations are strategically designed to ensure you gain experience in both customer-facing applications and the underlying infrastructure layer that powers them, providing you with a unique perspective on the end-to-end cloud development lifecycle.
Throughout the programme, you will be paired with a dedicated 'buddy'—a recent graduate—and a senior mentor from the engineering leadership team. This dual-support structure ensures you have both social support and high-level career guidance. Furthermore, we actively encourage and fund the pursuit of industry-recognised certifications, including AWS Certified Solutions Architect and AWS Certified Security, ensuring you remain at the forefront of cloud expertise upon programme completion.
