Join BP's 24-month Commercial & Trading Graduate Programme in London to drive the energy transition. Benefit from rotational placements, professional qualification support, and a competitive salary in a high-impact, global environment.

About the Company & Graduate Programme

BP is undergoing a historic transformation from an international oil company to an integrated energy company. With our global headquarters in London, we are at the forefront of the energy transition, investing heavily in wind, solar, hydrogen, and carbon capture technologies. Our graduate intake is pivotal to this evolution; we are looking for the next generation of thinkers, coders, and strategists who are not just looking for a job, but a career that reshapes how the world powers itself.

Our culture is built on the foundation of inclusivity, high performance, and relentless curiosity. As a graduate within our Commercial & Trading division, you will be embedded in a fast-paced environment where innovation is the currency. We provide a platform for you to influence real-world outcomes, supporting our ambition to become a net-zero company by 2050 or sooner. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic theory and the complexities of global energy markets.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate through key business units, including Gas & Power Trading, Renewables Origination, and Integrated Supply & Trading (IST).
  • Analyze complex market data sets to identify emerging trends, using Python, R, or SQL to build predictive models for commodity pricing.
  • Collaborate with senior traders and originators to support the execution of high-value energy transactions across European markets.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including project developers and industry partners, to evaluate the viability of new renewable energy initiatives.
  • Utilize modern cloud-based analytics platforms and internal data visualization tools (e.g., PowerBI, Tableau) to report on portfolio performance.
  • Contribute to risk management assessments, ensuring that our trading activities align with our stringent safety and environmental sustainability targets.
  • Deliver high-impact project presentations to the leadership team, proposing strategic shifts based on deep-dive qualitative and quantitative research.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a STEM subject, Economics, Finance, or a related discipline with strong quantitative foundations.
  • A minimum grade of 2:1 (or equivalent) in your undergraduate studies is required.
  • Demonstrable analytical mindset with the ability to synthesize complex data into actionable business insights.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in diverse, multidisciplinary teams, navigating high-pressure environments with resilience.
  • A genuine passion for the energy transition and a desire to challenge the status quo within a multinational corporation.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Applicants must hold the full right to work in the UK without sponsorship restrictions, or be eligible for the Graduate Route visa for the duration of the programme.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

The 24-month structured programme is divided into four six-month rotations, allowing you to gain deep exposure to different facets of the business. You will be supported by a dedicated 'buddy'—a former graduate from the programme—and a senior business mentor who will provide guidance on your career development, networking, and long-term trajectory within the company.

In addition to hands-on experience, BP provides comprehensive support for professional qualifications. Depending on your stream, you may be sponsored to pursue the CFA, CIMA, or specialized industry-recognized energy certifications. We also host internal 'Lunch and Learn' sessions, technical workshops, and global leadership forums, ensuring that you build a robust professional network from day one.

Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package

  • Competitive base salary of £38,000 to £42,000 per annum depending on experience and stream.
  • Annual performance-related bonus scheme.
  • Generous pension scheme with company matching up to 10%.
  • 25 days of annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to buy/sell extra days.
  • Private medical insurance and comprehensive mental health and wellbeing support programmes.
  • Hybrid working allowance to support your home office setup.
  • Relocation assistance provided for eligible candidates moving to London.
