About the Company & Graduate Programme
ARM is the heartbeat of the modern digital world. As the world’s leading semiconductor IP company, our designs are at the core of over 95% of the world’s smartphones, as well as millions of sensors, servers, and supercomputers. Operating from our global hubs, including our strategic London engineering presence, we enable the technology that is transforming the automotive, IoT, and AI landscapes. Our culture is built on the belief that innovation thrives when diverse minds collaborate to solve the most complex computing challenges of the next decade.
Our Graduate Programme is designed to propel your career from academia into high-impact engineering. As an early-career professional, you are pivotal to our future; you will not just 'learn' but actively contribute to the development of next-generation IP cores. We provide an environment where you are encouraged to push boundaries, challenge the status quo, and leverage the most advanced hardware emulation and verification tools in the industry to define the future of computing architecture.
What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with senior architects to translate high-level system requirements into robust RTL (Register Transfer Level) designs.
- Participate in the end-to-end design lifecycle, including micro-architectural specification, logic design, and hardware verification.
- Utilize industry-standard EDA tools and methodologies such as SystemVerilog, UVM, and advanced simulation environments.
- Contribute to performance analysis and power optimization projects to ensure ARM processors remain the most efficient in the world.
- Work cross-functionally with software, physical design, and verification teams to identify and resolve complex integration bottlenecks.
- Engage in automated testing and continuous integration (CI) workflows to maintain high code quality standards.
- Present technical findings and project status updates to senior leadership teams as part of our high-visibility design reviews.
- Support technical documentation efforts, creating detailed architectural specifications that inform downstream global engineering teams.
Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility
- Candidates currently pursuing or having recently graduated with a degree in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics.
- A minimum predicted or achieved grade of 2:1 (or equivalent) in your undergraduate studies.
- A strong fundamental understanding of computer architecture, digital logic design, and hardware description languages (Verilog/VHDL).
- Demonstrable evidence of complex problem-solving skills, whether through academic research, personal projects, or previous internships.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, C++, or Bash) for automation and data analysis.
- Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme; ARM provides comprehensive sponsorship for eligible graduate visa applicants.
- A growth mindset with the curiosity to explore emerging technologies like AI-accelerators and heterogeneous computing.
Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship
Our 24-month structured programme consists of four distinct 6-month rotations, ensuring you gain a comprehensive view of the silicon design cycle. You will rotate through areas such as CPU/GPU Architecture, Verification, Physical Implementation, and System-on-Chip (SoC) integration. This breadth of experience is designed to turn you into a well-rounded engineer, capable of bridging the gap between high-level theory and silicon-ready hardware.
Throughout the programme, you will be supported by a dedicated 'Buddy' (a recent graduate mentor) and a 'Senior Technical Mentor' who will guide your professional development and help you map out your career trajectory. We also invest heavily in your professional accreditation, offering full funding and time-off support for those pursuing Chartered Engineer (CEng) status through the IET or BCS, as well as access to cloud-certified training modules in AWS and GCP.
Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package
- Competitive base salary of £36,000 – £38,000 per annum, depending on experience and academic performance.
- Performance-based annual bonus scheme linked to individual and company successes.
- Generous company pension scheme with a highly competitive employer match.
- 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays and an extra 'wellbeing day' per quarter.
- Comprehensive private healthcare package for you and your immediate family.
- Hybrid working allowance to support your remote and office setup, plus travel-to-work subsidies.
