About the Company & Graduate Programme

AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical company that focuses on the discovery, development, and commercialisation of prescription medicines. With a massive footprint in the UK, including our state-of-the-art Discovery Centre in Cambridge and commercial hubs in London, we are at the forefront of tackling some of the world’s most complex healthcare challenges. Our culture is defined by innovation, curiosity, and an unwavering commitment to patients, where every employee plays a part in pushing the boundaries of science.

Our Graduate Programme is designed to identify and nurture the future leaders of the pharmaceutical industry. As a participant, you will be embedded into high-impact teams, gaining deep technical expertise while developing the leadership soft skills required to manage cross-functional projects. This intake is pivotal to our mission of ensuring sustainable, efficient global medicine delivery, providing you with a unique vantage point on the intersection of global trade, advanced logistics, and patient health outcomes.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in three 6-month rotational placements across various operational departments, including Procurement, Global Logistics, and Digital Supply Chain.
  • Utilise data analytics tools such as SAP, Tableau, and PowerBI to model supply chain demand and optimise inventory levels across EMEA regions.
  • Lead discrete workstreams within international projects, ensuring compliance with global manufacturing standards and regulatory frameworks.
  • Collaborate with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to streamline operational workflows and reduce the environmental footprint of our logistics network.
  • Manage real-time data inputs from manufacturing sites to identify risks in the supply chain and propose agile, solution-oriented mitigations.
  • Assist in the digital transformation of manual processes, leveraging modern tools such as automated reporting dashboards and cloud-based collaborative platforms.
  • Draft business case reports and present analytical findings to department heads during quarterly operational reviews.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • Final-year students or recent graduates (within the last 2 years) with a degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), Economics, Business Management, or Supply Chain Management.
  • Minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree classification (or international equivalent) is required to be considered for the programme.
  • Demonstrable analytical mindset with the ability to interpret complex data sets and translate them into actionable business insights.
  • Strong problem-solving capability; you should feel comfortable navigating ambiguity and proposing innovative solutions in high-pressure scenarios.
  • Evidence of effective teamwork, leadership, or active contribution to university societies, sports clubs, or volunteer initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables) and PowerPoint.
  • Must possess the legal right to work in the UK for the duration of the programme without restriction; we provide comprehensive sponsorship for international candidates meeting the eligibility criteria.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

This 18-month structured programme is meticulously designed to offer a blend of formal learning and on-the-job experience. You will navigate through three distinct rotations, ensuring you build a holistic understanding of the AstraZeneca operation. Beyond your day-to-day role, we support your pursuit of professional qualifications, such as CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) or Six Sigma Green Belt, with full financial sponsorship and study leave.

Development is core to our ethos. Upon joining, you will be paired with a 'Buddy'—a recent graduate of the scheme—to help you settle into the culture. Furthermore, you will be matched with a senior leader mentor who will guide your professional trajectory and help you build your internal network. Regular 'Lunch & Learn' sessions with Executive Leadership and dedicated networking events ensure you stay connected with the wider graduate cohort across the UK.
