About the Company & Graduate Programme

Barclays is a world-renowned financial institution with a deep-rooted commitment to technological innovation. As we navigate the rapidly evolving digital landscape of global banking, our technology division acts as the engine of our business. We operate at the intersection of traditional finance and cutting-edge fintech, developing secure, scalable, and intuitive platforms that serve millions of customers globally. Our London headquarters serves as a hub for our most critical engineering challenges, fostering an environment where ingenuity meets impact.

Our Graduate Technology Analyst Programme is pivotal to our ongoing digital transformation. We believe that early-career professionals bring the fresh perspectives necessary to challenge the status quo and drive forward-thinking solutions. By joining this programme, you will contribute directly to projects that shape the future of banking, from cloud infrastructure and cybersecurity to machine learning and AI-driven customer insights. We are committed to nurturing the next generation of technology leaders, providing you with the tools, exposure, and responsibility to build a world-class career.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary agile teams to design, develop, and test software solutions that improve customer banking experiences.
  • Engage in rotations across departments such as Cybersecurity, Cloud Engineering, Data Analytics, and Digital Channels to build a comprehensive view of banking architecture.
  • Utilise modern technologies including Java, Python, AWS, and Kubernetes to build robust, high-performance financial systems.
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), from initial requirement gathering to deployment and post-release monitoring.
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders and business product owners to translate complex technical requirements into functional solutions.
  • Contribute to internal 'hackathons' and innovation labs to prototype emerging technologies that could be integrated into Barclays’ core offerings.
  • Maintain high standards of code quality and security compliance by conducting peer code reviews and utilising automated testing frameworks.
  • Present project updates and technical solutions to senior leadership during review sessions, gaining valuable experience in professional communication.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • A minimum of a 2:1 honours degree (or equivalent) in a STEM discipline (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics) or a related field.
  • A deep passion for technology and a curiosity for how data and software solve complex financial problems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to break down complex issues into actionable tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in diverse, team-based environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Resilience and adaptability, with a mindset geared toward continuous learning in a fast-paced environment.
  • Candidates must have the right to work in the UK without sponsorship or be eligible for the Graduate Route visa for the duration of the programme.
  • Previous internship experience in a technology role is advantageous but not mandatory.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

The programme spans 24 months of intensive, structured growth. During this time, you will undertake multiple rotations, each lasting six months, providing you with a panoramic view of Barclays’ technology stack. This rotational structure is designed to help you identify your areas of interest while ensuring you develop a broad foundation in banking systems, software architecture, and risk management.

Beyond technical development, we provide a robust support network. Every graduate is paired with a dedicated 'buddy'—typically a previous graduate who has recently joined—to assist with day-to-day integration. Additionally, you will be assigned a senior mentor from the business who will guide your long-term career strategy. We also offer comprehensive support for formal professional qualifications, including AWS certification, cloud architecture pathways, and internal industry-recognised certifications in financial technology.
