About the Company & Graduate Programme
BAE Systems is a global leader in defence, aerospace, and security, delivering cutting-edge solutions that protect people and national security. In our Applied Intelligence division, we focus on the convergence of data, digital transformation, and cyber resilience. As an organisation, we are deeply committed to fostering early careers, viewing our graduates as the architects of our future technological advancements. Our UK footprint is expansive, providing graduates with exposure to high-impact projects that shape the way nations defend themselves in an increasingly digital world.
This graduate intake is pivotal to our strategy of maintaining a competitive edge in a rapidly evolving threat landscape. You will join a culture that prizes innovation, integrity, and collaboration, working alongside world-class engineers and consultants. We provide a platform where your academic background is transformed into real-world capability through hands-on engagement with some of the most complex digital challenges faced by government and enterprise clients today.
What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities
- Participate in 18 to 24-month rotational placements across diverse departments including Cloud Architecture, Cyber Threat Intelligence, and Data Analytics.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to design and implement secure digital infrastructure for high-profile government and commercial clients.
- Engage with senior stakeholders to identify operational requirements and translate complex technical constraints into actionable business outcomes.
- Utilise modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and data visualisation tools (Tableau, PowerBI) to derive insights from massive datasets.
- Contribute to software development lifecycles, participating in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and rigorous testing protocols.
- Develop and present technical briefings to non-technical audiences, bridging the gap between sophisticated engineering and business strategy.
- Support internal innovation labs by prototyping new software applications that leverage machine learning and artificial intelligence.
- Maintain compliance with rigorous security standards and internal governance frameworks in all project-based work.
Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility
- Applications are invited from candidates with a minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in STEM subjects (Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering) or Business/Economics with a strong technical aptitude.
- You must possess a high level of analytical rigour and the ability to decompose complex, ill-defined problems into logical, manageable components.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential for effective collaboration with internal teams and external client stakeholders.
- Resilience and a growth mindset are critical; we value candidates who demonstrate curiosity and a willingness to step outside their comfort zone.
- Strong team-working abilities are a prerequisite, as our successes are built on collective expertise rather than individual effort.
- Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK without restriction and be able to satisfy UK Security Vetting requirements (SC/DV clearance).
- We strongly encourage applications from candidates who have completed previous internships or industrial placements in a technical or consultative environment.
Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship
Our graduate programme is structured to provide a comprehensive 24-month journey, consisting of three or four distinct rotational placements. These placements ensure you gain a holistic understanding of our business, moving from foundational project delivery to specialised strategic roles. Throughout this period, you will be supported by a dedicated 'buddy' who provides day-to-day guidance, as well as a senior mentor who facilitates long-term career planning and leadership development.
We provide extensive support for formal professional qualifications, including pathways to becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng), gaining AWS Cloud Practitioner certifications, or pursuing relevant business qualifications like PRINCE2 or Agile Scrum Master. You will have access to our internal BAE Systems Academy, offering bespoke training modules that ensure you remain at the cutting edge of your chosen field throughout your career.
