About the Company & Graduate Programme

BP is undergoing one of the most significant transformations in its history, shifting from an International Oil Company to an Integrated Energy Company. Headquartered in London, our influence spans the entire energy value chain, from traditional hydrocarbons to rapidly expanding solar, wind, and hydrogen portfolios. Our commitment to 'Reinventing Energy' is not just a slogan; it is the core of our strategy to reach net-zero by 2050. We recognize that our future success relies on the brightest early-career talent to navigate the complexities of global energy markets.

This graduate intake is pivotal to our Trading & Shipping (T&S) division, the commercial heart of BP. As a Graduate Trading & Supply Analyst, you will join a high-performance environment where data-driven decision-making, rapid innovation, and ethical trading are paramount. You will be immersed in a culture that values diverse perspectives, intellectual curiosity, and the resilience to thrive in the fast-paced world of global commodity markets, gaining exposure to some of the most influential commercial desks in the industry.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior traders to analyse supply and demand fundamentals across crude oil, natural gas, and renewable energy certificates.
  • Build and maintain sophisticated quantitative models using Python, SQL, and Excel to identify arbitrage opportunities and market trends.
  • Support the scheduling and logistics of energy commodities, ensuring precise inventory management and operational excellence across international borders.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, including risk management, finance, and legal teams, to ensure all trades comply with international regulations and corporate governance.
  • Participate in daily market briefings to provide insights on geopolitical events and their impact on global commodity price fluctuations.
  • Assist in the integration of green energy assets into existing trading platforms, supporting the transition towards low-carbon energy solutions.
  • Use advanced data visualisation tools like PowerBI and Tableau to communicate complex analytical findings to senior management.

  • Communication: Exceptional ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders clearly and confidently.
  • Teamwork: A collaborative nature, thriving within diverse, cross-functional teams and cross-cultural working environments.

You will undertake three distinct 8-month rotations across diverse functions, such as Trading Operations, Quantitative Analysis, and Commercial Strategy. This structure ensures you develop a deep technical skillset while gaining visibility across the T&S landscape, helping you identify the area of the business where you can make the most significant impact long-term.
