About the Company & Graduate Programme

Barclays is a British universal bank with a global reach, rooted in over 300 years of history while aggressively pioneering the fintech frontier. From high-frequency trading platforms to consumer-facing mobile banking applications, our technology division is the heartbeat of the organisation. We operate at the intersection of complex financial markets and cutting-edge software engineering, making our digital infrastructure one of the most resilient and innovative in the world. Joining Barclays means you are not just working for a bank; you are working for a technology company that processes millions of transactions with unparalleled security and speed.

Our graduate intake is pivotal to our long-term digital strategy. We recognise that the next generation of talent brings fresh perspectives on cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. As a Graduate Analyst, you will be embedded into teams that are actively shaping the future of global finance. We provide a culture of relentless innovation, where hierarchical barriers are minimised and your ideas are encouraged from day one, ensuring you build the technical expertise and leadership acumen required to become a future technology leader at Barclays.

What You'll Do & Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in 18 to 24-month rotational placements across diverse technology departments, including Cybersecurity, Cloud Engineering, Data Analytics, and Software Development.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional, Agile squads to design, build, and maintain scalable software solutions that improve customer and operational experiences.
  • Leverage modern tech stacks, including Python, Java, AWS, Azure, and SQL, to tackle real-world engineering challenges in a high-security environment.
  • Participate in end-to-end project lifecycles, from initial requirements gathering with senior stakeholders to deployment, testing, and live-environment monitoring.
  • Analyse complex data sets to provide actionable insights for senior management regarding system performance and infrastructure efficiency.
  • Contribute to DevOps practices by streamlining CI/CD pipelines, enhancing system automation, and improving software delivery velocity.
  • Engage in 'Hackathons' and internal Innovation Sprints, presenting technical solutions to internal leadership and key business decision-makers.

Who We Are Looking For & Candidate Eligibility

  • Open to graduates from any discipline, though a strong preference is given to STEM, Finance, Economics, or Computer Science backgrounds.
  • You must be on track to achieve or have already achieved a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and think analytically when faced with ambiguous technical or business challenges.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and business partners.
  • A collaborative mindset with a genuine passion for financial technology and how it can improve the lives of our global customer base.
  • Resilience and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone during rotational moves and fast-paced project delivery cycles.
  • Must have the right to work in the UK without restriction; Barclays provides visa sponsorship for successful candidates where required.

Graduate Training, Rotations & Mentorship

Your journey begins with an intensive induction period covering the fundamentals of banking, coding standards, and project management methodologies. Throughout the 24-month programme, you will rotate through different technology business units, allowing you to identify your niche. You will receive extensive support for formal professional qualifications, including AWS certifications, CFA foundation levels, or CEng accreditation pathways depending on your chosen career track within the bank.

Beyond formal training, you will be supported by a comprehensive ecosystem designed for your growth. Every graduate is paired with a dedicated 'Buddy' from a previous cohort and a senior mentor—typically a Vice President or Director level leader—to guide your professional development and networking. You will have regular performance reviews that focus on personal growth, technical mastery, and long-term career planning within the global technology architecture at Barclays.

Salary, Bonus & Benefits Package

  • Competitive base salary of £38,000 per annum, reflecting the high-calibre expectations of the role.
  • Annual performance-based bonus scheme, linked to both individual and firm-wide achievements.
  • Generous company pension scheme with a competitive employer matching contribution.
  • 25 days annual leave plus UK Bank Holidays, with the option to purchase additional leave.
